1922: Scenes From a Turbulent Year by: nick rennison

oh lord! i am back. it took me a while to make it through this one, not because it wasn't interesting - it was - but because i've been incredibly busy. a brief overview: rennison goes through the process of picking and choosing various historically important or entertaining moments from the year 1922 around the world. from the death of bill taylor to the formation of the USSR, short pages are dedicated to exploring the stories - not necessarily the impacts, more of a snapshot of humanity.

though boring at some points - stock information and political stuff i could not be paid to care about - i learned quite a lot. my favorite excerpt was the German family murder case. the notion that it remains unsolved is terrifying.

on terms of writing, the style was compelling but factual. little tidbits, rants, and anecdotes were littered throughout the chapters, making it all the more exciting.

overall, 6/10. it's taking me a bit to get back into non-fiction, but i still really enjoyed it. i didn't like the eurocentric emphasis throughout the majority, but it was still a pleasant read. thanks for waiting so long for the update!
